Discover the mind of Henry Cavendish, 18th-century scientist and thinker. Project Archivist Erinna Cave will present her work examining the never-before catalogued papers of the grandson of the 2nd Duke. She will tell the story of this shy genius and his discoveries in electricity, gases and heat, cumulating in his greatest experiment: measuring the mass of the Earth itself.
The talk will be illustrated by images from the archives and collections of Henry’s own notes, journals and instruments.
The Hartington Room is a step-free, accessible venue located in the Chatsworth Stables. Please note on your booking if you require space for a wheelchair or mobility scooter.
A cup of tea or coffee is included with your ticket. Doors will be open 15 minutes before the event start time.
