David Mellor Design Museum and Country Shop, Hathersage
Designer, craftsman and manufacturer, David Mellor, was born in Sheffield and based his main manufacturing unit in Hathersage. The distinctive and award-winning Round Building is as beautiful as the items it produces. A guided tour and museum provides insight into the manufacturing process and the influence Mellor had on British Design, displaying his full catalogue of works including the traffic light system modern day motorists still adhere to.
Matlock Meadows Ice Cream, Matlock
Experience italian style gelato made from the milk of Derbyshire cows, born and grazed at Masson Farm in Matlock. This working dairy farm has been owned and worked by the Dakin family since the 1930's. The ice cream is hand-made on the farm and served in an on-site ice cream parlour as well as shipped to local retailers, including Chatsworth Farm Shop.
Peak Ales, Chatsworth
Peak Ales was the dream of Robert and Debra Evans and, through hard work and determination, they have made it a highly successful reality. Originally brewed in a barn on the Chatsworth Estate, the business has expanded to new premises in Ashford in the Water and produces a range of craft beers and gins under their own brand and for others, including Chatsworth. A new visitor centre is opening soon in the original barn at Pilsley.
Renishaw Hall Vineyard, Bakewell
The first vineyard at Renishaw Hall was planted in the 1970's, much to the disbelief of those who doubted the possibility of growing grapes in Derbyshire. It was Sir Reresby Sitwell, however, who had the last laugh as the vines prospered and for over a decade, Renishaw was home to the most northern vineyard in the country. Now in the hands of The English Wine Project, enjoy the fruits of their labour with a tour and tasting of the vineyard at Renishaw or the winery at Darley Abbey Mills near Derby.
The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, Bakewell
Not to be confused with a Bakewell Tart, the Bakewell Pudding was the result of a happy accident at a local pub. A local resident recognised an opportunity and bought the recipe to make and sell the Puddings as her own. Over a hundred years later, the recipe remains top secret but is still used to produce handmade puddings that are sold in the shop, and posted worldwide.
Thornbridge Brewery, Bakewell
Originating in a converted workshop in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall, the brewery has grown from producing one classic bitter to a full portfolio that is exported worldwide.
