Terms and conditions

Please spare a moment to read this — we’ve kept it as brief as we can:

Membership

  1. Membership is valid for entry on all open days for 12 months from when you join; the house, garden and farmyard are open every day from mid-March until early January, and the farmyard and adventure playground are also open during February half-term. Please note the farmyard and adventure playground are closed during the country fair, but there will be a farmyard stand at this event.
  2. Reserving Friends tickets in advance is essential during our Christmas season, early November to the beginning of January and recommended for all other visits.
  3. Children aged 15 or under must be accompanied by an adult at all attractions and organised events. Accompanying adults are responsible for supervising the children in their care at all times.
  4. You will need to subscribe to continuous card payment in order to purchase or renew your Chatsworth Friends Membership. Your payment card can be updated or removed via the member portal. You may also unsubscribe if you want to cancel your membership. Memberships will not be refunded if they are cancelled prior to expiry.
  5. All adult members must have a photo on the admissions system. Your membership card will be issued once your photograph has been added to our system.
  6. Membership cards are not transferable.
  7. Unfortunately, we cannot refund complimentary tickets, should the event(s) be completely or partially cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.
  8. If upgrading to membership after purchasing attraction tickets, attraction tickets can only be upgraded against a corresponding membership  e.g., one adult house and garden ticket against one adult membership, two adults and children tickets against a Family 2 adult membership. Add ons, such as guide books, tours, picnics etc, are excluded from the upgrade.

Chatsworth events

Tickets for Chatsworth Country Fair and the Friends Garden Party are included with Chatsworth Friends membership as long as the events go ahead as planned. Friends will be contacted by email 2-4 weeks before each event with details on how to download or apply for complimentary tickets.

You will be able to purchase discounted event tickets for yourself and others on your membership for all events that are run by Chatsworth House Trust, this includes the following: bonfire, garden theatre, catering events including at the farm shop, guided walks, experience days, and family events. These tickets are not transferrable to non-members. The discount will not apply to events that are run by third parties such as Classic Ibiza and Chatsworth Players, or large events such as Chatsworth Country Fair.

Shop, dine, stay and other properties

Chatsworth shops and restaurants
10% discount at our gift shops, estate farm shop and cafés and restaurants on presentation of your Chatsworth Friends card. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer, promotion or discount. Discount not available on gift vouchers, weddings or private dining events.

Holiday cottages
10% discount on stays at the Chatsworth and Bolton Abbey Cottages. Valid on new bookings only. Membership must be mentioned at time of booking. This discount excludes Christmas and New Year’s stays and is not available in conjunction with any special offers.

Devonshire Hotels & Inns
10% discount on bed and breakfast at the Devonshire Hotels & Inns. Valid on new bookings only. Membership must be mentioned at the time of booking. This discount excludes Saturdays, Bank Holiday weekends, and 20 December – 2 January and is not available in conjunction with any special offers. 

10% discount on food at the Devonshire Arms at Pilsley or Beeley, and at the Cavendish Hotel at Baslow. Discount available at the discretion of the Devonshire Arms or Cavendish Hotel. Friends cards must be presented at the time of ordering. Discount applies to the cardholder, and up to three guests. Not valid on public holidays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine’s Day, 24 December – 2 January, or in conjunction with any other special offer, event, or menu. Discounts are not available on weddings or private dining events.

Chatsworth Garden Centre
10% discount on full-priced items at the Chatsworth Garden Centre, excluding food. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, promotion or discount.

CW Sellors
Simply present your Chatsworth Friend membership card to receive your exclusive offers. Offer valid across boutiques in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield, Matlock, Ludlow, and Whitby in addition to online at www.cwsellors.com. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. Friends membership FAQs

 

1. Why can’t I gift aid my Friends membership?

Unfortunately, the terms of Gift Aid scheme are very strict and limit the value of certain benefits we can offer members. Our Friends membership scheme therefore does not qualify due to the variety of benefits it offers.

2. Will I still receive tickets for the country fair and summer garden party?

Yes, we will email you 2–4 weeks before each event with details of how to download your complimentary tickets.

3. How many children can I bring?

Family memberships now include all of the adult member's children or grandchildren between the ages of 3-16.

4. Why do I have to buy a family membership if I only have one child?

With a simplified scheme it is not possible to offer a bespoke membership for each type of family group. We hope that the family membership will suit the needs of most families with children. The new scheme is designed to be open and welcoming, and in the spirit of this, where you bring a single child we would be happy to welcome one or two additional child guests free of charge whenever they visit with you.

5. Does everyone on the membership need to live at the same address?

No, however each membership has a lead member. By default, we will send all communication about the membership (letters and email) to this member. However, you can add a second email address to receive member communications; to do so, please send it to friends@chatsworth.org along with your name and member number.

6. Why have you stopped offering the guest membership?

Feedback from Friends showed that guests on a membership were confusing and restrictive as people often wanted to bring more than one. We have introduced discounted guest tickets in its place, allowing Chatsworth Friends to bring additional family and friends when they visit.

7. Will Friends discounted guest tickets be available online or at the gate?

We would always advise you to book both your own cardholder tickets and any guest tickets online in advance, especially for the house when you will need to ensure both bookings are for the same timeslot. However subject to availability, you will be able to purchase discounted guest tickets on arrival.

8. Which events will I get a discount on? Are there any events that are excluded?

You will be able to purchase discounted event tickets for all events that are run by Chatsworth, this includes the following: bonfire, garden theatre, catering events, including those held at the farm shop, guided walks, experience days, garden experience days and family events. The discount will not apply to events that are run by third parties such as Silent Disco and Opera or Theatre in the garden.

9. Can I use the event discount to purchase event tickets for my guests?

Unfortunately this discount is only for members. You will need to produce your membership card on arrival.
