The Devonshire Collections encompass an extraordinary range of art, furniture, books, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, natural history specimens, letters, manuscripts, and archival records  gathered by successive generations of the Devonshire family over 500 years.

Regarded as one of the most significant private collections in Europe, they offer a living record of English history, culture, and taste. Today, these remarkable objects can be explored by visitors to Chatsworth, and through an active programme of loans and touring exhibitions organised by Chatsworth House Trust - the registered charity responsible for caring for the house, its collections, garden, and parkland.

With thousands of objects on display, from scene-stealing paintings by Lucian Freud, Thomas Gainsborough, and Rembrandt, to exquisite yet easily overlooked details in furniture, textiles, and ceramics, the house rewards those who take time to look closely.

In this blog series, we'll shine a light on some of these hidden treasures - objects that might escape notice at first glance, yet reveal captivating stories when given a moment of your attention. On your next visit,  we invite you to pause, look a little longer, and discover the wonders that are hiding in plain sight.
