We believe that Chatsworth has a positive impact on its local economy. To maximise this local economic benefit, we aim to buy at least 50% of our supplies and services locally. We define ‘local’ as any business which is less than 30 miles away by road.
Progress is measured annually in a comprehensive supply chain assessment. This looks at every single supplier of goods and services used by the Devonshire Group during the previous financial year. By looking at the amount spent with them and their distance from our sites, we calculate the proportion of money spent within the local economy.
In 2023/24, across the Devonshire Group, 47% of spend was with businesses located less than 30 miles from our sites.
This measure can be volatile due to capital expenditure, often characterised by high spend with local construction services. However, while the proportion of local spend is slightly lower than our baseline year, the overall value has never been higher. Last year, a total of £22.1 million was spent with local suppliers and services.
We are fortunate to share our estates with a wealth of amazing businesses and artisans, and colleagues continue to seek opportunities to work with local businesses.
