For young people in rural communities, employment opportunities can be hard to find. We take pride in offering young people in our communities the chance to gain their first experiences of the workplace.
The types of opportunities offered include work experience placements for pre-GCSE students and apprenticeships for those wishing to develop industry-specific skillsets. Placements and projects are also provided for individuals in Higher Education, such as students, recent graduates and PhD students.
For example, our collections team hosted Researcher Employability Projects for two PhD students in 2022. These placements are three months long and focus on specific projects, such as researching and cataloguing manuscript and printed sheet music in the archives to widen access and facilitate further research.
Since 2019, we have hosted 89 work experience placements and provided 82 traineeships, apprenticeships and other positions for young people.
